Born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in NYC. Attended Cardinal Hayes H.S. in the Bronx and received a NYS Regents Scholarship. Attended Columbia College and received their Bachelors degree in 1976.
Attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and received M.D. in 1980. Did his Internship and Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC from 1980 to 1985. Did his fellowship in Surgical Endoscopy at University of Toronto, Toronto General Hospital from 1985 to 1986.
Had a private practice at Lenox Hill Hospital from 1986 to 2006. After that became Site Director for the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai St Luke's from 2006 until 2020.
